If you received IRS Notice CP504, you’re running out of time. This notice means the IRS intends to levy your assets, including bank accounts and state tax refunds. While it may not be the final notice before wage garnishment, it is a serious warning that collection action is escalating. The good news: you still have options to stop it — but you must act quickly.
WHAT IS IRS NOTICE CP504?

IRS Notice CP504 is titled:
“Notice of Intent to Levy – You Must Respond Immediately”
This means:
The IRS has not received payment
Prior notices were ignored or unresolved
The IRS is preparing to take collection action
At this stage, the IRS can:
Levy state tax refunds
File a federal tax lien
Move toward bank levies and wage garnishment
IS CP504 THE FINAL NOTICE?
No — but it’s close.
After CP504, the IRS typically issues a Final Notice of Intent to Levy (LT11 or Letter 1058).
Once that final notice is issued:
👉 You only have 30 days to act before enforced collection begins.
WHAT CAN THE IRS TAKE?

If you ignore CP504, the IRS may eventually:
Freeze your bank account
Seize future tax refunds
File a lien against your property
👉 Once a levy happens, it becomes much harder to reverse
HOW TO STOP IRS COLLECTION ACTION

You still have time to stop the IRS — but action is critical.
1. Installment Agreement
Set up a monthly payment plan to avoid enforcement.
2. Offer in Compromise
Settle your tax debt for less if you qualify based on financial hardship.
3. Currently Not Collectible (CNC)
If you cannot afford to pay:
👉 The IRS may temporarily stop collections
4. Appeal Rights (if applicable)
Once the final notice is issued, you may request a Collection Due Process hearing.
WHY TIMING MATTERS
The earlier you act:
The more options you have
The easier it is to stop enforcement
Waiting until a levy hits:❌ Limits your options❌ Increases stress and financial damage.
WHY WORK WITH A TAX ATTORNEY

A tax attorney can:
Communicate directly with the IRS on your behalf
Evaluate all resolution options
